About me
My name is Randy Vazquez and I have been working as professional visual journalists for the past 9 years. I am currently working as a senior video producer for the Boston Globe and recently a photojournalism professor at Emerson College. I have a passion for finding and telling stories in unique ways and creating long-term visual strategy. I was introduced to the journalism profession while attending community college in Southern California, where I found power in words and images.
My passion in this field has grown from an interested community college student to a driven visual journalist that is always looking on the horizon for the next story. I take pride in my profession and I also take pride in what this profession has given me; a platform to inspire people in my community to reach new heights. I previously worked as a photojournalist and video editor at the San Jose Mercury News and East Bay Times. I held the same role at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel where I started as a summer intern before being hired full-time. At the Sun-Sentinel I would create video content and photographs for print and online use. I was also one of 26 students from around the country that participated in the New York Times Student Journalism Institute this year. While I have told stories from the frontlines, some of my biggest contributions have been from inside the newsroom with my researching skills, developing coverage plans and creating long-term digital and social strategy for the my teams. Visual journalism is my profession, my life and my passion.
